Hydrostatic Test

Hydrostatic Testing is a pressure test method used to verify the integrity, strength, and leak-tightness of pressure vessels, pipelines, boilers, storage tanks, and other fluid-retaining components. It involves filling the component with water or another suitable test fluid and applying pressure above the normal operating level.

Purpose: To ensure equipment safety, detect leaks, and confirm that the system can withstand required design and operating pressures.

Hydrostatic Testing Procedure:

  • Clean the component and fill it completely with water or another approved test fluid
  • Gradually apply pressure to the specified test level (usually 1.3 to 1.5 times the design pressure)
  • Maintain and monitor the pressure for a defined period to check for leaks, pressure drops, or deformation
  • Safely release the pressure after the test is completed
  • Prepare a detailed report comparing results with applicable design codes and safety standards

Standards Followed: ASME Section VIII, API 650/570, ISO, and other relevant codes.
