RLA Studies (Remaining Life Assessment)

Remaining Life Assessment (RLA) is a specialized evaluation process carried out to determine the safe operational life of critical industrial components operating under high temperature, pressure, and corrosive environments. RLA combines non-destructive testing, metallurgical examination, and operational data analysis to predict how long equipment can continue to function safely and reliably.

Applications of RLA Studies:

  • Boilers, superheaters, and reheaters
  • High-pressure and high-temperature piping systems
  • Pressure vessels and storage tanks
  • Turbines, compressors, and rotating equipment
  • Chemical reactors and refinery components
  • Critical parts in power plants, petrochemical, and process industries

Key Elements of RLA:

  • Collection and review of service history and operating data
  • Non-destructive examinations (UT, RT, PT, MT, hardness, thickness survey)
  • Metallurgical testing (creep, fatigue, microstructure analysis, chemical analysis)
  • Stress analysis and fitness-for-service assessment
  • Prediction of remaining safe operating life
  • Recommendations for repair, replacement, or continued operation

Standards Followed: ASME FFS-1 (Fitness-For-Service), API 579, ISO, IBR, and other international guidelines.
