Welding Inspection - WPQ Test

The Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) test is conducted to qualify welders to perform welding according to specified codes, procedures, and joint designs. Our inspection ensures welds meet mechanical and visual requirements.

Applicable Codes & Standards: ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1/D1.5, ISO 9606, Project-specific WPS.

Inspection Process: Visual inspection, dimensional checks, non-destructive testing (NDT) like RT, UT, PT, MT, and mechanical tests like bend and tensile tests.

Key Steps:

• Verification of welder identity and qualifications
• Checking compliance with WPS parameters (current, voltage, travel speed, electrode/filler)
• Visual inspection for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, and incomplete fusion
• Dimensional verification of weld size, length, and thickness
• Non-destructive testing (as required)
• Mechanical testing for destructive qualification

After the inspection and testing, a detailed WPQ report is generated stating whether the welder is qualified for the tested material, process, and position.
